#26Acts of Random Kindness

26 Acts of Random Kindness

When tragic events occur it is natural to want to help while simultaneously not knowing how. These 26 acts of kindness may not directly help the victims but they are certainly ways for you to make a difference in your own community. Below is a possible random act of kindness for each of the 26 people in the Newtown shooting.
Adopt a Family project

You can read more about the origins of the #26Acts and #26RandomActsofKindness movements on NPR.org.

1. Pay for the person behind you in the drive through or at a toll booth

2. Take a neighbor out to a move

3. Make supper for an elderly or sick neighbor

4. Adopt a family for the holidays

5. Give someone a hug

6. Pray with a friend

7. Make treats to share with your coworkers, classmates, or artist guild

8. Leave a $26 gift card in someone’s grocery cart

9. Serve at the local soup kitchen

10. Donate toys

11. Call an elderly relative that you might not talk to often

12. Paint a picture or donate some artwork to hang in a shelter or treatment home

13. Donate warm clothes or food to a local charity

14. Donate money to a local charity

15. Donate time to or lead art lessons at a local charity

16. Go and knit or just to spend time with people at an old folks home

17. Fill up the car with gas so someone else in the family doesn’t have to

18. Leave a huge tip 100% or more

19. Buy the Salvation Army bell ringers a warm drink

20. Adopt an animal from the local animal shelter

21. Buy a homeless person a pair of gloves or ask what (s)he could use

22. Thank a custodian or someone else who most likely doesn't get as much thanks as they deserve

23. Send 26 blankets to the local homeless shelter

24. Leave money in a finance book such as Dave Ramsey at the library

25. Buy an artist made greeting card or hand make one for a special someone

26. Create a gift basket consisting of hygiene items and some food to be prepared for homeless people.

These are just 26 Random Acts of Kindness there are certainly other actions that you can participate in. A motto that the church camp (Outlaw Ranch) I worked at always had was “see the need, meet the need.” This can be applied here. You can always ask someone what they could use or if you see a person with holy shoes in the winter, buy or donate shoes.

  1. This is great! 5 and 22 are my favorite things to do. I've got to get on 12, 21 and 26 though! :-)

  2. Cool I hope you do. Our church has what are called Bags of Grace that you can take and put in your car. They ask for a donation of $5 to pay for the items. The bags have some non perishable food and chap stick. Some families use them as emergency car kits as well.

I absolutely love working with the homeless so those are some of my favorite on the list.

22 is one that often takes more courage than it maybe should. Keep it up!
